In the past, riflemen would have to learn to compensate for various factors including wind deflection and bullet drop though trial and error and a visual estimation of the target. The downside being of course, that any time you changed rifles or loads you were essentially forced to start from scratch. Today’s technology of laser rangefinders and weather meters basically takes the guesswork out of shooting especially when it comes to longer ranges. Bushnell’s latest product, the new Elite 1 Mile CONX Combo is designed to wirelessly link the rangefinder and the weather meter via Bluetooth which is a first in the industry. The combo pairs the Elite 1 Mile CONX rangefinder with a Kestrel Sportsman Ballistic Weather Meter. The combination offers a ballistics system that simply breaks the entire process down to point and click.
Accessory of the Year — Crimson Trace LiNQ
Crimson recognized the need for a better way of managing lights and lasers used in the field and as such set out to revolutionize the industry with the first wirelessly controlled sighting system for AR-Patter rifles resulting in the Trace LiNQ system. The system is compatible with many popular platforms including AR-15, AR-10, M4 and HK416 variations. The system consists of a rail-mounted laser/light module combined with a specialized AR-style control grip. The wireless connection is composed of a proprietary encoded radio frequency signal developed by LinQ.
Women’s Innovation Product of the Year — Springfield Armory EMP4
The new Springfield EMP4 is designed to the take the previous version to the next level. As with the original 3” barrel EMP, the new EMP4 model has proportions that are designed to eliminate unneeded frame material by removing a small portion of the grip area. The new EMP4 has a grip area that measures 5.5” with a combined barrel length of 7.5”making especially well-suited for women. It holds an addition round of ammunition than its counterparts with a 10-round magazine and its longer top end has more muzzle velocity and sight radius than its predecessors.
